Default Cabin air filters

I have noticed a huge difference in price for cabin air filters. Is there any advantage in paying the $30 extra for the GM one?Or is buying the Gm one a waste of money?

I haven't dealt with this yet but my understanding is that the GM filter has charcoal in it while the lesser priced ones don't. I don't know for sure. I suppose it kind of depends on your personality. If you are like Clark Howard you are willing to accept lower quality for a lower price. Unfortunately that isn't me so I always overspend.

I haven't gotten one, yet, but AmsOil sells them; part number WIX 24480.

Compare the price of these charcoal impregnated cabin filters to GM's.

WIX 24480 @ $25.99 @ O'Riellys Auto
Bosch C3722 @ $18.99 @ AutoZone

Both of the above are of excellent quality.

I'm pretty sure that GM offers a 'plain' cabin filter as well as one that is carbon impregnated.

I just replaced mine and the new one I put in is a GM part and has carbon in it. The one from the factory, that I took out, did not have carbon. The carbon ones are pricey though $40+. Worth it ? Probably not.

I recently purchased the WIX from O'Reily's and it does have charcoal. It is also just a little large so it is hard to install and tends to fold just like the OEM one did at the factory. I used a small pusher stick to help get it in without collapsing. The channel curves upward so isn't that hard to keep a pusher on the top back side and rock it in.

According to Gene, genuine GM offers only the one. Your dealer may offer a cheaper alternative without. Speaking only for myself, I'd much rather have the carbon. It really does remove organic odors better.

I also purchased the WIX from O'Reily's..as FortMorganAI said, it is impregnated with charcoal and is a bit larger but I got it to fit in nicely. I'm very happy with it.

Advanced Auto has a Puralator cabin fliter for $11.48. P/N C 25623. Fits perfect and looks much like the original GM filter.

I have a $13 Purolator C25623 and it is identical to the stock GM unit in thickness and all else. The GM price is a waste of money and just a markup because it's GM, plain and simple.

Thanks for saying that. A forum member corrected me though. See... I only ever saw the one in the catalog and I only ever sell the charcoal impregnated one, but there is an el-cheapo listed in the GM catalog.
