09 replaced engines and matching numbers.
Hey all !
Here's a couple of photos I snapped for you numbers guys this morning. This is a car that was involved the newest service bulletin that requires replacement of the complete 2009 engine assembly.
The question always comes up from the numbers guys................... I won't have matching numbers. Well, you will........ but.
There is a difference in the numbers. I've posted two shots here for you all to see. The first shot is from the factory installed engine in Corvette VIN # 8419. Notice the "engraved" style on the numbers. The lower shot is of the replacement engine for the same car. Notice the replacement has the correct vehicle ID, but the characters are "stamped" in a more traditional style like we see on the early Corvettes.
Just an observation I made and wanted to share with you all !!

Better let the Corvette judges know for future points counting! Your piece of info will be the answer to some Corvette trivia freak 40 years from now.
Good one.

Seems silly but that is the kind of info that could mean everything to someone in the future. Thanks for posting, it's interesting.

Can't you see the guy with a C6 in 2050 at the judging event protesting the deduction for a non-matching engine, due to the judges saying "all C6 Vette's had machine engraved engine numbers".

Ohhhhh Yea! Maybe the corvetteforum.com archives will become the defacto authority on this in the future.

I'm a bit surprised they went to this trouble. But then again, they probably realized that build sheets, tank stickers(not on ours), even internal records can all go away. Good thing they did it.

Who stamped the numbers on the replacement engine? Was this done prior to it being sent to the dealer or something that was done at the dealership/zone to match with the affected vehicle? If done before shipment it would reinforce the case that GM definitely has a handle on the VIN's affected and that maybe it actually is as few as some 50 cars involved. I realize there needed to be documentation to authorize a new engine, but was thinking this final step might be handled at the installation time. Anyone heard more on the total numbers involved? The photos are great documentation- thanks for posting.

That's weird - doesn't GM trust their dealerships to install new rings? Or are they paying attention and know not many of us would actually want to buy one of these if we knew what was done to it? The cost of doing this swap can't be cheap.....

The numbers were stamped on the engine when it arrived here.

I think on a brand new car, the new engine is the best choice. Two thumbs up to GM for handling it in this manner
