I understand there are differences between full size Chevrolet and C1 Corvette generators. I was never too clear on the differences or how to tell one from the other.
Could someone please explain to me the differences?

The one thing that immediately comes to mind is the tachometer system.

Through 1961 some/all generators for the corvette had gears mounted on the rear to drive the tach cable. Fuel injected vettes through 61, and all 62 vettes, used distributor driven tachs so generators on those cars looked more traditional.

Functionally they are pretty much the same with the big difference being the tach drive as 62Jeff has mentioned. There are different front and rear bearing end frames in the mix between Pass car and Corvette. Pulleys are another thing to watch for for a correct Corvette application.

Thanks for the responses, but as I understand it, the Corvette C1 tach drive generators and Chevrolet P/S generators pretty well look the same and are interchangeable.
I also understand the main differences between the two are in the end plates, this is where I would like to know the differences and be able to identify one from the other.

The front frames are different according to the location of the adjusting hole and on the left side or right side depending on the application of the GM car or truck. The power steering and tach rear frames are interchangeable as are the armatures. But there are two different popular case lengths You almost need to have the unit in front of you and match one up as opposed to trying to describe one over the phone.

I still have two NOS generators that fit my 62 left and they are the long case

The amps are 35 on a '62, where the earlier cars were 30 amp. I beleive. Any rate, the regulator is of a different amp rating on a '62 and an earlier regulator will not survive with a 35 amp. gen.

The 55-59 pass car PS generators , 1102114 and 1102115, use the same case and rear splined armature as the Corvette tach drive gens but the end frames are different. The difference is in the distance between the centerline of the armature and the centerline of the rubber bushing mounting bosses. The distance is shorter on the Corvette than the PS gen. This is accomplished by using different front and rear end frames. The Corvette front end frame is aluminum and is part #1933109. The PS gen 1102115, which is the most common PS gen seen, uses the aluminum front frame # 1941168. Visually, the difference is that the 109 frame doesn't have the radial reinforcing ribs and the 168 frame does. The PS rear end frame is cast and the part number is #1938726 and has a noticeable distance between the lower PS pump/tach drive mounting hole and the lower rubber bushing mounting hole than the Corvette rear end frame which is #1934131and is also cast. The PS generator can be fitted with the tach drive and used on the corvette, but it will stand slightly taller on the mount and, of course, will not have the correct part number on the tag. There were other PS generators with solid mounting instead of rubber mounting,and could be used but they are not correct as the Corvette 1102043 generator was only rubber mounted.

I have been informed that the 1102041 power steering generator used in 1956 has the same end plates and the 1102043 tach drive generator for 1956.

In other words, you could turn a 1956 power steering generator into a tach drive generator by re-stamping the tag.

This is not true for 1957 and later power steering generators.

Not all 56 generators were 2043, early ones used 2025's like the 55 corvette solid mount.
