Default Sears 50/10/2 battery Charger...was this a good buy?

I go 2-3 weeks at a time in between engine starts and I want to keep the battery level up.

Does anyone have one of these and do you set yours on the 2 Amp trickle charge in between starts?

Is it ok to set it at 10 amps for a quicker charge 3-4 hours when the battery is low?

Also, where do you connect the negative clamp? On the engine block? where?

I may need to replace the battery...will pulling the battery completely out affect the PCM? My car is a H/C car and has a custom tune in the PCM that I don't want to lose.

I have a NASCAR XLT gel battery model NXDT34

Thanks in advance!!!

Default DieHard model 200.71222

Son , do you have this model ? 200.71222[IMG][/IMG]

It is a very common Sears Diehard Automatic battery charger. This is not a battery maintenance charger, which is what you need for long term , walk away battery maintenance. Battery Tender , floating charger is what you need for maintenance. The Diehard will not shut off when the battery is fully charged and if left on in that condition can damage your battery.

The Sears Diehard Automatic charger 2/10/50 is to be used ONLY on LEAD - ACID batteries , NOT Gel or AGM.

Do you have the Sears battery charger manual? PM me if you need one.

To slow charge a low battery at 2 amps , I've never had problems just connecting the charger to the in car battery while cables are connected. But with 10 amps , I disconnect negative battery cable before charging.

You can make the negative charger connection at either the battery terminal or engine/ frame., but I personally connect to the terminals. Always connect the negative last and disconnect first to avoid a possible spark as a matter of practice.

No , you will not lose your tune.

It is a pain but disconnect the neg terminal when you shut her down for a couple weeks but the battery wont drain down. I agree that you shouldnt leave anything but an automatic charger connected for long periods

Thanks guys! Yes, that's the one I have. I'll take it back because both my batteries (daily driver) are gel.

Then I'll get a battery tender.

This forum rocks!
