For people who have never used the metal key!
Some people use only the fob and don't know how to use the metal key to open the hatch/trunk on the C6. Please try yours out and make sure that it works properly, not just the key and lock but the trunk latch mechanism, just so that if you are ever stuck with a dead battery or a non-working fob or a lost fob, you will know how to get into the car. Just a little advice on preparation!
The car does NOT have to be locked to test this out....but if it is, the alarm will go off when you use the key to open the back, so be expecting that.
Also notice the trunk button just to the right of the keyhole...many people never know that this button is here. It opens the trunk but it needs the fob there in your pocket in order to work. Even if the car is unlocked, this button will not open the trunk without the fob being in fairly close proximity just outside the back of the car.

My metal keys would not come out of the FOB without extreme force. I had to file the catch a little. They had casting flash on them which prevented them from unlatching easily.
I would recommend trying yours before you need it.

Funny... When I first got the car I tried it and it did not work. It was last year so I don't remember exactly what happened (either could not turn, turned & nothing...etc) Since they just dropped it off, I remembered not caring at that time and saying "oh well"...
Now I care and can't find the key..
Good thread.

Make sure to "unlock" the doors using the FOB before trying the hard key... or at least have your FOB in hand when trying the hard key... because the alarm may go off when you open the hatch using the hard key. Depending on how things are set and/or if the FOB is not nearby, the car will think it's getting broken into if you pop the hatch with the hard key while the car is "locked". I tripped my alarm testing a hard key in a dealer parking lot once (`06 model)... can be embarassing. :o

Hey metal, we posted the same info at nearly the same time... just didn't want you to think I was rippin' off your material
