500 hp
Looking to make a plan for 500 hp out of my 1999 ls1. I see post on here about new heads/cam/intake and claims of around 500 hp. Is this possable? if I have done my home work correct, heads are around $1700, cam $400, intake around $1500. so we are talking $3600 and some change for gaskets and what not.
The other route would be a blower, $6k-$7k then a hood if you go roots type.
I "think" N/A would be my choise, but do you really see that kind of gains from heads/cam/intake?
Then I guess there would be drivability to think of.
Thanks!

I'm no expert at making horsepower. With that said, if you want to stay smog legal, even marginally, you will have a difficult time making 500 HP N/A in CARB California.
But there are several choices in supercharger packages which have a CARB sticker.

Ca. SMOG, I forgot about that, you guys feel that 500hp N/A is a smog issue? I guess the best thing to do is go with the Kenny Bell 2.6 at low boost, then go forged internals down the line and get 700 some day?

that makes sence, just throw away my C5 and go drop $70+k on a new one.
I would assume it would be $3k+ for N/A, but with Ca. SMOG sounds like it would have to be a blower motor. i dont like the bulged hood, and there are those that say that only the roots type have the low end grunt.

It is alot more than $3K to reliably get there NA, even doing the work yourself. Plus you will then need some drivetrain upgrades as well. Try $5-$10K more realistically!

$3K?? Not so much. To get even 500 blown you'll need a BIG cam/valvetrain/cai intake/longtubes and you might have a chance at making it. For 500 to the wheels add some heads/intake manifold/tb/injectors/ud pulley and you're talking a lot more $$$. I hope you're doing the work yourself or you'll be droping ~$8k+ to get there. Oh, don't forget the clutch so you can actually use all the new power... another $1K+

sounds like your telling me in calif. 500hp to the wheels aint gonna be to ez, I have shorty headers and a cat back,"I know I know but shorties is all you can have in cali. I will be turning my own wrenches. I have built many BBC, put in a nice cam, a set of 12 to 1 pistons , holley double pumper, headers and away we go. But these where all pre 70 cars, this efi, smog deal sucks. Whats the deal with these supercharger places, they claim 600hp with there kit, they dont say a thing about touching the bottom end.

If you're in the Republik of Kalifornia you're dead in the water wanting 500hp n/a.... The long tube headers alone shuts the door on you.
Supercharge it... you'll wish you did it anyway.
I pissed away thousands modding my last LS1 before I added a twin turbo kit... which is what I should have done from the start.
Again too bad you're in Kali... I'd say go Kenne Bell, for the same cash as a Maggie, plus you have room to grow. (unlike the magnacharger)
Never liked centrifugal blowers.
