Default '61 Steering Wheel Hub Removal / Replacement

I am replacing my '61 steering wheel and need instructions how to remove the wheel rivets from the hub. Also, is there a way to re-install the the wheel with screws instead of rivets? If so, where can I get the screws to re-install? Thanks

Drill out the rivets to separate the hub from the wheel. Center punch the rivet to start the drill in the center. Drill until the head of the rivet is drilled off. The rivet will then fall out the other side.

Replace them with phillips flat head screws. Either a #8 or #10 fills the hole in the wheel completely without protruding. The usual Corvette vendors sell kits for this. The horn button will pretty much cover the screw heads. One of the vendors sells screws without a screwdriver head for this purpose. Use stainless ones so they won't rust. You'll have to experiment with the lengths. Make sure you use lockwashers on the nut end. I'd also double nut them. You don't want these screws coming loose.

Corvette Central sells the kit with the screws that look like the original rivets.
