I'm going to be making a trip down to Fl in a few weeks, down I-75, I got my tail light blacked out by Corvette Enhancements. My question is are blackout tail lights legal in your state? Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida.

Couldn't find anything in T.C.A. 55 on blackouts on your tail lamps, but that doesn't mean a trooper won't give you grief over them. Anything tinted covering your license plate will get you stopped here. The law is clear on that one. Have a safe trip!

Thanks, I don't have anything on my license plate, just the tinted tail lights.

Not That I Know
I moved to FL two years ago and have never been stopped for my black outs. I have even been pulled over 2-3 times and they have not said anything about them.
So just go for it!!

Thanks, Neatnic. I'm very familiar with your area, I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 20 year, but my Grandparents lived in Eau Galley for 30 years and my best friend lived in Melbourne.

I live in Georgia and I'm not aware of any laws regarding the blackouts.
I do know the window tint law is: Your window tint can not be darker than 30%. My windows measured 12% using the County Sheriff's light meter and they gave me a $85 ticket.

Back on topic, if you are minding your business you will be fine in TN, watch out for THP south of Lenoir City on to GA.

this actually is very good advance planning
on the Interstate: roll with the flow,, don't do anything to make yourself obvious,, and I doubt any of Ky's finest will bother you over blackout taillights.. as long as the lighting is visible after dark.
exit the Interstate onto the 2-lane system very far ?
that might get ya a traffic stop; they use any clue to apprehend an impaired driver
happy motoring /:\

I live here in knoxville and my grand prix has them and never been stopped for them or questioned about them......however they were real curious as to why my speed was a tad up there..
you may have seen the thread about I 75 exit 112 in knoxville. the cops are every where. be careful if you come through that area.

I have them on my Vette and have never been stopped for them.
I travel in Knoxville on 75 almost every week and from Knoxville to Chattanooga once a month.
Funny thing about blackouts though.
About 15 years ago I was stopped while driving my Fiero by a local cop in Morristown, TN
He was just looking for something to get me for.
1st he told me my back side windows were too dark.
I pointed out to him that the sail panels were not windows only body parts.
Then he told me that blackout tail lights were not legal and I was getting a ticket for them.
He would not listen when I told him that they were like that from the factory.
That is the only time I ever went to court to fight a ticket.
The local Pontiac dealer was kind enough to write a letter and provide some technical papers that I took to the judge who threw out the case and had some harsh words for the cop.
