Default Best mufflers for 1987...Flowmaster??? Or??

I would like to change my original mufflers on my 87 automatic Corvette.

There are so many choices, what sounds the best, for a fair price?
I am going to save my original mufflers in case I want to return the car back to the original exaust system.

Thanks

Flowmasters arent the best option for a C4 IMO. They have a great sound but it just vibrates the entire car, will drive you nuts. I recommend a straight through stainless steel system like Corsa, Magnaflow, or Borla. Yes they cost more but they're worth it.

What kind of shape are your OEM mufflers in? Are you going to sell them? If so, how much.

For less than 100 I went to my exhaust guy and had him order some SS tips and then bent some 21/2" pipe with a couple of crimps in it to replace the mufflers (Great sound with the headers and nothing else ). If you still retain the converters and resonator it will still be quite on the road.
Good Luck wro87

Go on the flowmaster web page a have a listen. I have them and like them. They do resonate at cruse speeds which bathers some.

Default Not Flowmaster

I just spent 470.00 on flowmasters and the resonance was so bad I had to take them off and went with Magnaflow. Stay with magnaflow. Nice sound, low resonance at crusing speed.

i bought some used flowmasters like 2 years ago and i like em....i get compliments on the sound too...best way to figure out what you want is to find someone who has them installed on their car and take a listen.

I personally had tohave a set of 'Turbo-mufflers' on mine. The flow-masters arejust TOO loud, for Me!
Twenty years ago, It might have been different.

This is my 87 with stock manifolds hollowed out pre cats and flowmasters. This is my old motor it's a 383. I can make a video of my new motor it's also a 383 but it's a mini ram and TPIS headers and high flow cat as for resonance I had none with my old motor and have not noticed any with the new motor either. follow this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVsc1lVrWuw if you want to hear them with headers let me know and I will post a link. I have had a ton of compliments about the sound of my car including a cop that gave me a thumbs up and siad "sounds good" then at a vette cruise Bobby Peterson the owner of fairly reliable bobs he owns 1 of every year vette made came up to me and said this thing souds mean. my neighbor from accross the street came over acting all pissed off said that when I start my car he can just barely hear it in his bedroom at the back of the house then he laughed and asked me if I would start it up earlier in the day so he doesn't have to get up out of bed and stand in his living room at the front of the house so he can hear it better. He's 55 or 60 I'm 41 most of my friends are my age so I think BADDUCK has flowmasters confused with fartcans

vetteset8087,
Sounds good to me. What model of Flowmasters are you running on it? Thanks.

I have the original 40s on mine. They sound awesome, but mine's a manual and it does resonate around 1500 rpm. I have Hooker headers, no cats, and dual 2 1/4s with an x pipe. Without the x pipe the resonation is too loud, and with it it's still barely too loud. But with a custom sub box in the back it's perfect. I have to wear earplugs on road trips over 3 hours long, though.
I had a buddy that put some flowmasters on and they were EXTREMELY loud resonating, plus he had an automatic that wanted to run in the resonation rpm all the time. He took them off immediately and put on cheap turbo mufflers.
I like the way flowmasters sound best. Second choice would be Magnaflows.
