Default C6 Z06 brake upgrade??

Has anyone done this upgrade? I am particularly interested in whether or not there is a parking brake. I am interested in these calipers and rotors but need a parking brake. If anyone has any pictures I am very interested. Thanks much.. RC

If you are talking about upgrading a C6 Coupe or Convertible to the brakes from the C6 Z06 model, then yes, the stock parking brake is retained.

Actually I am looking into using that brake setup on another vehicle and am trying to see what all will be needed for me to retain a parking brake.

New wheels for staters. The Z06 brakes will not clear the wheel openings on the stock C6 in the front.

The parking brake will remain. You won't have to change anything to have it function. The parking brake system is inside the rear rotor hub. It is called a "drum in hat" system and should carry over from the base car that you are adding the brakes to.

Pretty much the definitive answer.

Thanks for the pics. I didn't realize the Z06 brakes used one-piece rotors.

Don't forget, you'll need need to replace the brake lines. Here's an example :

I am looking to do the same thing, I heard that they will bolt up to a car with the Z51 option, but need the brake lines from a Z06. Does this sound correct?

The vehicle(1996 GMC K1500) I will be installing these on doesn't currently have disk brake rear, just drum so I think I will need to manufacture a parking brake setup or hopefully be able to use some or all of the corvette parts. That would be ideal!

I got a set of these from a friend at the GM proving grounds. They have a few nicks and scratches but I don;t mind for the price..

Tires and rims are on my list anyways, the stock ones are having difficulty with 850RWHP, even with 4wd launches.. Thanks, RC

It would have been simpler in the first place had you told us this was not going on a C6 Corvette. When you ask about the brake upgrade in the C6 Section we usually assume that it is going on a C6 non-Z06 edition. I can now see by your description that it is not. Disregard my information as it was specific to a C6. I have no idea what you will need to do to add the C6 parking brake to a car that does not even have a disk brake parking brake system to begin with.

Sorry about the confusion. I posted here because it seemed like the logical place to request info from the ones that are intimate with the C6 Z06. If anyone is willing to help it would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has their wheels off and can snap some pictures it would really help..

They actually need more than their wheels off. They need the wheel, caliper, and rotor off for you to see the parking brake.

Pictured below is the C5 parking brake assembly. The C6 assembly is very similar. What you see pictured is all enclosed in the "hat" of the rear rotor. When you pull on the lever the pads you see pictured press outward on the inside diameter of the rotor hub to apply friction and keep the wheel from rotating.

Here is a scan of the C6 assembly from the service manual.

Actually the only car that I know of that the rear disk brake parking brake that will work on an 88-98 k1500 is from an eighties caddy. Anything else will take major modifications and some engineering.

Check out http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/...rake-swap.html For more info. That'd be the best place to get advice on doing the ZO6 brake swap as well. Make sure to PM me some photos once you get them installed...

You are correct, the 1985 Cadillac Eldorado caliper has a built an integrated parking brake to the rear calipers. We just made bracketry to install them onto my friends 56 chevy pickup rear axle. Depending how this all works out for my truck he will likely switch his over, especially if I can manage another set of calipers and rotors.. RC

Keep in mind, if you cannot get the Z06 brakes to work the way you want or need them to, you can come back here and sell them to buy what you need that will work. Depending on what parts you have it could net you between 900 and 1200 in cash for a full setup (all four corners)...
