Carter Carb Date Codes
I need a refresher on the cast #'s on the C1 Carter carbs. I think they have a date code separate from the tag attached. Is this so, and if so, how is the date noted and located?
Thanks

The only date code on a WCFB is on the tag. AFB's had a date code stamped on the edge of the baseplate - letter for the month, number for the year.

OK, I have two WCFB's that are identical except the small cast # on the left front is different. Example on one of them is 0-1517, and the 1517 has a circle around it. What does this number signify?

If you are worried about originality you really need to get the numbers of all 3 main components and check them....people have played "mix and match" big time with these carbs over the years.

I have no idea what mine are off of. Rear carb has 15/16 venturis, front carb has 1". Amazingly, it seems to run pretty well. Maybe the difference "evens out" the lean/rich problems these seem to have between the front and rear cylinders!

With the price of original dual quad 270hp carbs in the $3K-$4K range I'll stick with my Cadillac carbs. Interestingly - they have a lot less weight on the secondaries than the original carbs and so the back barrels open faster. The old racers used to drill these weights to accomplish the same thing so I basically have this mod for free.

BTW, your black 57 looks great on the dragstrip in your profile picture!

i can't get the CD to work on this computer. but i don't think it had the issue info.
i have the carb numbers info printed out for reference. but i have the info also saved in a word document. i can email it to you.
i'll try tomorrow on another computer.
and thanks for the compliment!

Try this - Corvette WCFB "numbers", from Gary Hodges, NCRS carb "guru".

Something doesn't jive at the bottom of this document. The last note on the page says '61 270HP used 2614S rear carbs but in the very last line of the document it calls out 3182S rear for the '61 270HP
