Default Front Air Dam Install

One year ago today I traded my 98 Vert for my 04 Lemans and could not be happier.I just wish I had the opportunity to drive it more often. Only 1000 miles in a year.:o

The only thing wrong with the car when I got it a year ago was the center front air dam was missing...the 2 side pieces were a little banged up. Now my husband got me a new complete front air dam for Xmas last year. We are not car mechanics and had to devise our own 2 X 6 ramps to drive it on. I did the removal and install my self (with some help from hubby) of the new 3 pieces. What was really funny was that when I looked under the car, whoever had the car before me, put the middle piece on entirely wrong. It was totally up against the underside of the car and screwed in that way and the brackets that are behind that middle piece were on upside down.

Now as a female,I was perplexed when I first came upon this. I was trying to figure out how the heck the new piece went on and the purpose of that dam is to bring air into the radiator and the old dam was doing nothing. I had to get out the my repair manuals and we took a good hard look at the diagrams of the brackets and realized they were put on wrong.

Now all is fixed correctly....even cleaned out the radiator area while I was under there. My work is done!!!

Great job getting it back together, strange how parts are put on wrong sometimes.

Good for you! My wife can barely put gas in hers by herself. It's very refreshing to hear that you are doing some of your own maintenance work.
I change mine about every other year. My car is lowered so much, it catches on everything. Anyway, it's not that hard, but getting to it was always such a hassle. You had to jack the car up and crawl under it...until I got a four post lift! That was the first thing I did after I got it, and WOW, did that ever make it easy. It only took me about 20 minutes to do it.

When and when I knock my house down, it will be mandatory that i have room for a lift of some sort. I had 2 episodes of feeling very claustrophobic while underneath the car and that was no fun. With 2 Cadillac Allantes and the Corvette, we do our best for maintaining them without going to the stealership. These 3 cars are always in the garage and the business car sits outside...that one does go to the stealership since it is still under warranty.
