Default Fuel Tank Removal C4 - 84

I have an 84 Vette. I have the rear bumper cover off. I can see the fuel tank and the strips (and cables). The question is can I remove the fuel tank from the rear just by removing the strips (and cables) and simply pull it out through the rear bumper location without dropping the rear support and mufflers.

Thanks,

I am assuming that the tank on an '84 is at least similar to the tank on my '85, which I removed...

Make sure the fuel lines are removed from it - there is one spot on the bottom of the tank where it is bolted into place - yes, you can remove it, without removing the rear impact bumper. I did.

No not bored. The top of it is rusted so I want to take it out and look at it for leaks and maybe rust-proof it some more. Also the lines are very very rusted so I want a little more access to them. Though I have search the board and found that to be a major under taking, but a nessecary one at this point.

Thanks for the advise.

Among other things I am in middle of the same thing. I haven't removed the old tank yet but took the rear cover off and rust proofed my used replacement tank with POR15.

Before and after:

I don't know. It seems pretty tight fit to take out removing the impact part.

Are the bolts for those cables (not strips) easy to get to as well. I was just going to cut mine and then use a cable connector to connect them again. And I'm a big beleiver in POR15.
