Comp Cams- CS EX274H-10 extreme series.
Anyone heard this cam in a SBC yet.
The web site doesn't really say if its rough idle or what, just good mid range torque. int-487/ex 490, dur 274/286 on a 110 lobe sep.

I want a lopy sounding cam, I have the 470/270 Comp cam now and its too tame. Either the 274 extreme or the 480/280 comp cam I think would sound good.
I really like Crane, but their cam site isn't very good compared to Comp so I ruled them out.

I ran the 292H Magnum (.501"-lift, 244* @ .050", 110* LSA ) on the street with a 'tight' 10"-converter to/from the strip (10.3:1 355" SBC ), and it wasn't that-bad.....

How about this lunati, cam and lifters # LUN-60104LK.
lift 504/525, 276/284 dur, 110 LSA. not hairy enough,
# LUN-60105Lk, lift 525/546 dur. 284/292 LSA 110.

I ran the 274 extreme in my 350 before I stroked it and it was more lopey in the 350. Still able to idle with enough vacuum for the power brakes. I like it in a street motor. I have the same cam in it again but now stroked to 383. I could have and should have gone up a step on the cam when I increased displacement. In a 350, I think you'll really be pleased with it.

470/270 is a very nice/good cam with a noticable healthy sound to it.
I am just going to pull the engine and trans and do some fun high performance things to it, like a 3500 stall and new 350 race prep trans, heads ETC so I want a lopy cam.
The 470/270 makes alot of power!!!!

3500 stall, more comp. very good, go for that 2nd lunati, lots of
lift for a 280s duration hydraulic flat tappit cam.
Hell I had a 270 crane in my 350 pickup, stock converter, power
sucking turbo 400, 3.07 rear gears.

I have honestly been having a little trouble with idle in gear. But, I've been working with Lars on timing and vacuum advance. I ordered a new vacuum advance per his recommendation and hope to correct the idle.
The cam is good off the line but even better about 30 mph and stomp it. I have vortec heads, edelbrock intake, q-jet. 2,500 torque converter. I like the cam just fine.
Good luck, Doug

I have this cam in my 350 auto. The machine shop said its going to 'sound like a corvette should'....(whatever that is). It does sound real good with my hooker sidepipes/headers. Get a lot of complements pulling into a parking lot.

But until then, you will spend more and more on distributar parts vacuum line and canisters and plug and unplug every vacuum port on the engine and carb until you strech the timing chain 10 degrees negetive and have to start over.
But heck I haven't had to raise the hood of mine for weeks now, but some call it exsercise

I'm running that cam in my 383. I'm very happy with the sound. A bit of a lope, but it doesn't sound like a full out race car either. Pretty good performance for a hydraulic flat tappet without crazy lift or duration. (See my signature...)

I'll dissent. I think the XE line is poorly designed. First, with good heads and good exhaust, dual pattern will cost you ponies. Here's some good reading:
http://www.camaros.net/forums/showth...hlight=cabbage
Secondly, many XE cams fail on start up. The ramps are too aggressive for a flat tap cam. And many of those that do survive start up, report too much noise (noise = friction,..slapping valves, etc). Go to www.chevelles.com and www.camaros.net and do a search, "noisy XE cam". You'll get a 156 hits on the Chevelles page and 115 on the Camaros page...(what would we do without the internet?...believe the marketing hype?)
I would stick to the 270H or up to a 280H. Or better yet, go roller.
Lastly, how a cam would sound should be a distant concern for the street or heck at the track. It would be easy to pick a great "sounding" idling cam that ran very poorly when things got serious.
