Default vortec head and summit cam swap

Hi guys I have been trying to locate a thread a while back where a guy was looking to up the flow and power of his engine by swapping on a set of vortec heads and a cheap summit cam. I know he also said he needed a special vortec edelbrock intake.

-

I started looking around and found vortec heads off of everything from cars to trucks to suvs and was just wondering what the best year and model wold be to look for and what to watch out for.

-

Does anyone know off hand what cam that was that was suggested?

-

The bottom end was rebuilt a few years back and the compression is still good and the oil pressure is high. I want to eventually do an LS swap but can't really afford it now. I figure I can do this vortec head and summit cam and intake swap and get more performance until I can afford a new engine.

-

Thanks guys, sorry for the long post and poor searching skills.

'96 to 2000 light trucks, suburbans and tahoes. There will only be 8 intake bolts, 2 front and 2 back on each side and they thread in straight down rather than angled toward the head. The only 2 casting numbers Chevy ever used on 350 vortec heads ended in -062 and -906. Once you get those, you'll be on your way!

i put vortec heads and the summit 1103 cam on a 350, motor ran real well. the cam does not need a stall converter, but def performs better with a 2000 stall. there is a post in here where someone did this as well with a dyno sheet. i belive it was 275 hp at the wheels. 315ftlbs of tq. but that is just going from memory.

That's not bad at all. That'd be around or over 300 at the flywheel and that's probably double that of a stock L48 right?

Hell, through an automatic, 275rwhp is around 350 crank HP. That will get you LOW LOW 13s, probably high 12s with a good converter.

That's good to hear. I think I like the idea of this combo and it's just what I'm looking for.

I love this forum. Just a few days and many great posts and I have a complete parts list to do this swap for under $500 and that's with new timing and even some solid motor mounts.
