1989 1LE Camaro For Sale
I found and bought an 89 camaro and after i found it I found out it is a 1LE car. It needs to be restored and does not run. How much is this car really worth? only 111 of these were produced in '89.

There are several non 1LE working Camaros on ebay going for about $4500US. There's even an '89 IROC-Z convertible going for $7500.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
The 1LE car is a desirable car, and could fetch a nice price if in good condition, even though as you say it's not running and needs restoring. Post some pics so we can see it.

I think it has about 150k on it and a rebuilt non-running motor. Not sure what the problem is.

Are you sure that is a 1LE? What size are those wheels? They look like 15's, and 15's won't clear the 1LE brakes. Do you have a pic of the RPO sticker, or better yet, a picture of the front brakes?
I used to have a 92 1LE/B4C so I know them pretty well.

They are 17s and it has rear disc brakes. The sticker in the glove box says 1LE option jg1 n10 and n64 options. all 1LE only options. I am positive it is a genuine 1LE. any ideas what its worth?

Post a pic of the RPO codes.That would be the best for everyone to see.jg1 n10 n64 are NOT 1le only options.Those options could be had with an 89 and not have 1le.As far as pricing...thats hard to say with the miles and condition.I would say evilbay may be the best place to post it.Great find though.Good luck with it

Well a guy has a want ad on craigs list and he came and looked at it and offered 2k take it or hold out or evilbay it?

It would probably be worth more if you had the original wheels. What happened to the heater/ac control? And the radio? Why the mat on the dash pad, is it all cracked up? The right front fender looks kinda banged up and the colour doesn't really match the rest of the car. Could be the picture. Still, even @$2K, it's a bargain. Do you know if the motor is original? You mention that it was rebuilt. If it's a numbers matching car.....These 3rd gen's are now just becoming collectibles. In 10-15 years, the 1LE's will probably start collecting some serious coin.
You could always put it on ebay with a high reserve and start bidding at $1K. See how that goes to gauge interest. Again, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

We are thinking the same thing Mojave especially since the car was purchased for $700 as a donor car to pull the TPI and maybe the motor out of for a sand rail.

If you can get it restored to all original, I can see this going for 15k... 1LEs have changed hands for 10 to 20k depending on mileage, condition, originality, etc.
The problem is doing the factory correct restore. It will take time and also money, and I'm not sure if the net result would yield a profit.

t tops on a 20 year old car with a unibody aren;t so desirable w.. umm, it could be a 1le car but if thats the case she is dead. Try to get the wheels that are listed on the rpo codes, and possibly clean up the interior, fix the engine and make everything nice and shiny then put it on ebay for 7k. you'll sell it.

I may be crazy, but weren't the rear ends on 1LE's offcenter?

No. Why would 1LE's have different rear ends, and why would they need to be off-center? The 1LE brake package ONLY includes front brakes. The 1LE rear end is the same as any other 3rd gen rear from the same year.

After all this, the the vastly improved braking revealed yet another weakness. During hard braking, the engine would suffer starvation of fuel when the fuel level fell below a quarter tank. To fix this, baffles had to be added to the gas tank as well as a new fuel pickup and sock. These had to manufactured to ensure the tank-mounted fuel pump was constantly fed under all racing conditions.
This included an aluminum driveshaft, heavier duty front disc brakes and calipers, fuel tank baffle, specific front and rear shock absorbers, and unique durometer jounce bumpers. The 1LE option added nearly $700 to the car's price tag.
Also included in the 1LE option was a special fuel tank with increased baffling for reduced fuel starvation in the corners.
