Default Corvette SS/BD/Z08 Spied on test track with a Ferrari

Edmunds.com Straightline Blog has a set of photos of a Corvette SS Prototype testing alongside a Ferrari 599. The take on the story is that both the Ferrari 599 and the regular production Corvette both share Delphi's Magnetic Suspension Technology and therefore Chevrolet engineers are reworking the system to help control the massive horsepower output of the Corvette SS.

Last April, Ferrari announced they would be using the MagneRide suspension, which uses shock absorbers filled with a fluid capable of changing damping characteristics on the fly. Delphi's MagneRide system is used on the Corvette as well as the Cadillac STS and other premium GM cars.

Thanks.

For some reason the pics arent posting. The wheels look interesting....

Makes sense if they did add something to keep the power down.

maybe you can post the hyperlink to the original article?

edit: nevermind. the pics did show up eventually.

Lets see, if the info on the board is correct the Vette will have more hp (611 vs 635-650) and weigh some ~800 lb less than the 599. I don't think it is too hard to figure out.

Let's see....red roof, no spoiler, silver 5-spoke temporary wheels and the same camo we've seen earlier.

I'll bet this is the exact same car that were in the leaked shipping depot pics from a few months back.

Where's the black roof? Obviously not the same mule. Wish they would just release the specs and pics to end speculations. Can’t wait!

Who cares? Both cars are for high speed touring turning left and right. Want to drag race, but a drag car.

Default Spy Shots: Corvette Z07 suspension testing with Ferrari 599

Spy Shots: Corvette Z07 suspension testing with Ferrari 599

When we first saw the KGP Photography spy photos of a 2009 Corvette Z07 (or whatever the moniker di jour is) testing side by side with a Ferrari 599 GTB, our first thought was that a lightweight 'Vette with nearly 700hp could actually hold its own against a 599 in a strait line, but in the twisties, the competition would be tougher. Well, not so fast. These two vehicles have similar weight and length, both vehicles boast more than 600hp, front-engine layouts, and both companies employ the same magnetic damping from the embattled Delphi corporation.

In fact, the folks over at Straightline think Z07 engineers are testing their configuration of the magnetic shock absorbers against the best the world has to offer. Hey, if you want to make a world-beater, the 599 GTB Fiorano is a hell of a measuring stick

Nice find! I would guess they are testing against a 599 because the performance envelopes are similar. The cars definately do not weigh the same as the article suggests however. The 599 is listed over 3700 lbs.

In their dreams...seems a very Ferrerocentric blog from the banners across the top.

Having had a 360 and 430 on the track I can tell they are no match for a Z. I doubt the 599 will fare any better against the Z 07. For all their "specs" Ferraris do not like the track. Much better at trolling for Babes at street speed

Hmm. In a straight line, the 599 is way quicker than a stock Z06.

Evo only managed 4.2s 0-60 in a low mileage stock Z06, but the same guys at the same track managed 3.5s in the 599 that they weighed at 1738kg!

Autocar just tested a 599 and that averaged 3.6s to 60 and they matched evo's 0-100mph time of 7.4s which is very, very fast.

I know there are some US mags that have tested the Z at 3.5s to 60, but none have got close to 7.4s to 100!

Seeing as GM/Corvette were the first to introduce magnetorheological dampers, it was surprising they didn't use an advanced version for the Z06, but it looks as if they are for the Z07.

Ferrari always sends juiced cars to the rags for tests. You will have a very hard time matching the mags with one you buy at your local dealer.

David...599 is heavy pig vs Z06. The difference in weight is 300kg!!!!
0-60mph tells me nothing. Sure heavy car has better launch
But after 60mph...599 has no chances vs my car!

1450kg vs 1750kg
616hp vs 620hp
No comments...

What is his :
0-200km\h
0-250km\h
0-300km\h

100-200km\h?

0-100mph 7.4s. Even our LPE cars can't match that.
0-120, 10.2
0-140, 14.0
0-150. 16.3

However, my LPE car, at the time running only 552bhp, still lapped the test circuit nearly a second faster, but the stock Z they tested was 1.3s slower than the Ferrari.

Allegretto, I am a motoring journalist, so I won't comment, but...

The 599 evo tested came off a trailer with 6 factory technicians. There was tinkering with tires, brake pads and discs (CCM! ), and laptop sessions too.
It dynoed at 621bhp, which is 10bhp more than rated and the tires fell apart on the rollers in a highly suspicious manner...

Hehe....My 0-150 is 15sec with not the best launch and shifting...
Tomorrow will have a race (on a closed airfield)
50-300km\h with LP640

Any thoughts? As i know that you have tested this beast

Would you expect anything less from Italian engineers?
