I have at least one leaking injector on my 88 Vette. I have a chance to get 8 NOS injectors, number 5235211, at a good price. All the research I've done on the Internet indicates that these are for an 86 Vette and that the 87-88 Vette used 5235302. The flow rates are listed as the same (21.6 lbs/hr) at 43 PSI fuel pressure. The 5235211 has a plastic tip and the 5235302 has an aluminum tip. Also, the 5235211 is listed as low impedence while the 5235302 is listed as high. I think the 5235302 injector replaced the 5235211 and was used in older Vettes as a replacement for failed injectors. Does anyone know of any reason I couldn't use the 5235211 in my 88? I can't think of a reason. I find it hard to believe that one can be listed as low impedence and the other set be high impedence.
Both should be high impedence.

You're correct. I mis-read the table at first. I was off by one line. They're both listed as high impedence.

88RHVette: The injectors in my 89 were Multecs and they crapped out! I contacted Rich Jensen at Cruzinperformance and he recommended that I replace my Multecs (used in years 89 - 91) with a set of used injectors from years 86, 87 or 88 as these years are compatable with the 1989 L98 engine. The problem you currently have is that from 1989 through 1991 on the L98 engines GM installed Multec injectors. These injectors have one of the highest failure rates of any injector ever installed. It's not a matter of "if" they are going to fail, it's simply a matter of "when" they will fail. That is why some of your injectors look differently than the others. Some of them have obviously already failed and were replaced. Because of their design they cannot be repaired so the only solution is to replace them.

You can try to find some of the same injectors to use as replacements however they will likely eventually fail also so a better alternative is to replace them with an aftermarket set of replacement injectors or find some of the earlier Rochester injectors that were used from 1986 though 1988 on the L98's. These were a Bosch design injector and they don't have the problems that the Multecs do.

I don't sell any injectors so I can't help with supplying replacements but if you do find a set of the earlier design injectors I can service those and they have a very good track record of long life and serviceability. The part numbers you would be looking for are: 1986 = 5235211, 1987 and 1988 = 5235302. These are the part numbers that are on the injectors themselves. They are not the part numbers that would be listed in a GM parts catalog.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that's just the way the Multec injectors are.

Thanks, Sam. According to how I read Rich's reply to you, it looks like I can use the 86 injectors with no problem. I'm going to verify that they really are NOS and unused first.

88RHVette: I have two suggestions for you:

1. Save the injectors you are removing from the engine! These can probably be cleaned and re-used by someone who is seeking replacements for their Multecs. I purchased a set of used 88 Lucas injectors for my 89 at a cost of $10 each from a forum member.
2. The injectors can be removed on a L98 without pulling the runners from the intake. here is a procedure for doing this yourself:

Kool88. I apologize for missing your question before. I just caught it while I was re-reading this thread. I got them from a guy on Ebay, speedymotorsports1. Hopefully, I'll be receiving them either late this week or sometime next week, since he's shipping from San Francisco and I live in Virginia. I'll post back here and let everyone know if they're actually NOS and unused.
