Default Looking for Vette owners in Alton, IL area?

Just checking to see if there are any Vette owners in the Alton, IL area. If there is a club close by? If not if there is enough of us maybe we can start our own ;-)

Thanks!

I'm a member of the Looking Glass Corvette Club in O' Fallon IL. John M sent you info. We meet first Thurs each month at a restaurant in O' Fallon just off IL 158.

Jack Schmitt Chevrolet is our corporate sponsor they host our monthly newsletter on their web site - http://www.jackschmitt.com/
Click on the Looking Glass Corvette Club link in the lower left of the screen. I'm guessing we have about 150 members.

I live in Swansea but work at Scott AFB.

There used to be Mississippi Valley Corvette Association in Alton. I don't know if they are still around. Several guys around years ago were Bob Jourdain, Dave Dawdy, Merle Hazelwonder, Bill May, Dan Garner, Dwight Werts (Werts Welding, Wood River), Gary Claxton, Mike Funk, and a bunch that I'd have to look up names.

Not sure if Bill May is still around. He ran a body shop on Broadway for years. Dan Garner had a Corvette shop on Broadway near the steel mill and then later in the Islands, but he sold that years ago. Don't know if he is fooling with that anymore or not.

Check with Bob Patterson, who has a car lot in East Alton just past the railroad tracks. He used to have several Corvettes for sale all the time.

Some of the old glory days.

I don't find much on a Yahoo or Google search, so I really don't know if they have anything. You could always check with Boone Trail Corvettes and find out. MVCA was leaning heavily to the NCRS side of things in the '80s so maybe the St. Louis NCRS chapter would know someone to contact.

We should set a time to meet somewhere and cruise the River Road, maybe meet in Grafton at the Loading Dock?

It seems all the motorcycles in the bi-state area do this...

If you are trying to locate any club members or attract other Corvette owners, you should pick a spot to end with a good place to eat and drink.

Then pick a spot in the middle things, like Wood River at WalMart. Start in Wood River, drive up Edwardsville Road through East Alton and onto Broadway until you get to the River Road. Pick a place to stop before getting on the River Road, like the parking lot by the casino or if there is a parking stop at the beginning of the River Road.

This way, your starting point may attract attention, your drive with several cars together will, and the stop in Alton before the River Road will give anyone who runs across you a chance to stop and talk before you take off.

As long as the guy in front understands he has a few cars behind who may not make each traffic light, and adjusts speed to try to get them all through together, it is a great way to attract attention. Make sure a couple of drivers halfway back in the group (better - all of the drivers) know where you are going in case you get separated, then you might get a lot more than you think.

And at the end, you should have a few who have joined you.

From Roxana, years ago. Go up to Moro and look up my buddy Denny with the '72 orange ragtop with the BB hood. Tell him to go for a cruise with all of you.
