Default Vert owners -- Looking for that elusive hydraulic pump?

Here is a follow-up to jcortney's post last month about the convertible top's hydraulic pump. I have posted photos of the pump following his original post:

Suggestion to all Vert owners with Power Top
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you've never figured out how to put your top up and down without having power, do it right now before you get caught out and have to figure it out!

I was putting my top up this afternoon when it just stopped, half way up. On the DIC was a warning that the trunk partition was not attached. Now, with the top half way up the trunk wouldn't open and I was lost. Luckly, I had my owners manual with me. Even luckier, I had that allen wrench in my glove box. After about 20 minutes I figured out where the pump and, more importantly the relief valve were. A twist of the wrench and I was in business. I went home, opened the trunk and took a look at the partition. It seemed to be connected ok so I tighend up the valve and put the top up and down about three times. Seemed ok.

I went out late in the afternoon with the top down and after about 20 minutes the DIC started warning me that the "Top is not secure". Now the top was down, it had to be secure but I guessed it was talking about the partition again. It was pitch black outside when I finally had a chance to look at it. The top wouldn't go up, the trunk wouldn't open and I was pissed.

Now the really good news was, because I figured it out this afternoon, even in the dark, I could find the emergency release for the tonneau, found the valve by feel, put the top up and got my a$$ home.

First thing tomorrow, I'm at the dealer.

So, if you don't know how to do the manual top thing, give it some practice.

First, in order to raise the tonneau cover you will need to locate and pull the emergencu release cable. It's located behind the passenger's seat head restraint on the underside of the tonneau cover.

The pump is located under the passenger side of the tonneau cover. The carpet liner must be pulled up to find it.

The pressure release bolt is on the top right side of the hydraulic pump.

Capote (electrique) cel pour pompe, uh, I mean find the wrench that should be located in the center console.

Insert the wrench and turn the pressure release bolt counterclockwise one revolution. That will relieve pressure to the hydrauic pump and allow you to manually raise the top.

If you're not familiar with how to raise the top manually, read the manual under "Convertible Top.

Thanks for the photos. Now I can add the pics to your prior post that I printed and stashed in the trunk.

As a point of reference the 2005 has the wrench velcro'd to that pump. The process is the same, just when you pull back the carpet it's stuck right to the pump!

Best of luck everyone!

Thanks for the writeup. I love the power top, but you just know at some point we all need to be prepared. Thanks.

I didn't know that. It might actually be the best place to keep the wrench.

Thanks for the info

I actually went through this excercise the other day after reading the original post. I took me a lot longer than I would have liked - but at least it was sunny and warm (for March anyway)

In an impending storm I think I could do it in less than 5 minutes after having done it once

great help - Thanks again

I can't find that wrench in my 06. It looks like an allen wrench. What size is it? These pictures are taken with the top up correct? Can you peel the carpet back when the top is covering it?

Thanks

May I ask, if when y'all might not have juice available, does anything stop the tonneau from opening so a manual top (as I have on my 07) can be pulled out?
Surely the windows will not go up either with no juice.

On my '05, the allen wrench is attached to the hydraulic pump with a velcro strap. They must have changed in a later year to putting the wrench in the glove box.
