I have a noisy lifter so I'm replacing them all. What do you think I should buy? Here's what's on my short list. I want the quietest lifter out there and top notch quality.

Comp Cams High Energy CC850-16 - $230

Comp Cams Pro Magnum CC875-16 - $238

GMPP Kit (comes with guides, retainers, bolts, etc.) 12371042 - $215

Crane CRA10530-16 - $200

What do you all think? Help me make my mind up. I'm leaning towards Comp Cams but what else do I need to buy with them? The GMPP kit comes with everything. Also, High Energy or Pro Magnum what's the difference??? Can't find much on Comp Cams web site.

I went to quite a few high end engine builders that are talked about allot in here and most other forums.They recommend factory GM, unless you are going to go past 6500, then use something else.

That's what just went into my new 383.

I don't remember which one, but one of those aftermarket lifters has had some major problems. If you do decide not to go with the GM parts, do your homework before buying the aftermarket ones. I found a lot of information on this subject in the LT1 forum at www.cz28.com

If all you need is the lifters, I would use Morel, GM, Federal Mogel/TRW or Melling stock replacements, in that order. Luck of the draw at most parts houses or parts suppliers. But Morel's are the best $$ can buy the rest are pretty much in a dead heat for quality. Then again I've never had any of them fail.

Here is who I use. Usually I get Federal Mogel/TRW but occasionally I get Morel. $130.00. Honestly if the cam is under 230-240@.050 with 350lbs valve spring over the nose or less and your not going to turn it over 6000 rpm it dosen't matter IMO, I would run any of them in a near stock engine.

You have another choice which is the new GM Performance LS7 lifters part number 12499225, they are cheaper than the Comp Cams lifters in either the 850-16 or the 875-16 Competition lifters not to mention that the 875 lifters are a pain in the butt to adjust.

These are the infamous Comp "R"s. They break retainer clips and are a PITA to adjust. As stated earlier, go w/ OEM for mild (spring pressure & rpm) applications, or Morel/LS7 for wild applications. I'm running Morel.

I am looking for some lifters now too and used to use nothing but the comp r lifters and they were non adjustable when I used to buy them.. whats changed.. and are the LS7 lifters good for use on lt1's? fill me in guys.. need to get some ordered pronto for the new motor!

Yes, the LS7 lifters are good to use on the LT1 cars.

I realize that this thread is old but my problem is new.

Are the LS7 (or any other LS series lifter) the same length as the LT lifters? I don't want to have to buy pushrods (again).

Yes they are the same.

The only GM one that is different are the Caddy Racing lifters PN 88958689 - which have the pushrod seat .020 taller (the rest of the lifter is the same).

Aftermarket wise Morel sells a dog bone hyd roller lifter that has a .200 taller body for small base circle camshafts.

Sadly the guy at Comp Cams said the small base circle cam he recommended would work with all the rest of my stock valvetrain. Well, it didn't and I bought longer pushrods. Had I been aware of my lifter problem I'd have just been able to buy the taller lifters.

BTW, I did some other checking about using the LS7 lifters in place of the LT1 lifters and was told that one difference is that the LS7 has a smaller bleed hole so it retains higher oil pressure in the lifter and allows higher revs. FWIW

I ordered a set of the LS7's and they were cheaper to boot than the LT1's

That's the number. If you google the number you will find it for some better prices.

I actually found them cheapest at Superior Chevy. First time I was shocked to find the dealership lowest. Seems like they were around $110.
