Base Coat Clear Coat Painting Tips???
I've just paid a guy alot to paint my Vette, but there's lots of little areas that need clean up. He's working on them, but more seem to appear everytime he tries to correct something. I know that sooner or later I'm going to have to learn how to fix scratches or paint "dings", so my question is who can recommend a book/web page with tips on how to correct painting problems using the base coat/clear coat methods?
Thanks

I've read the Lars paper. It tells you how to paint, what I need is how to repair runs, missed spots, lightly covered areas, in other words how to fix paint errors.

only way to truely fix painting errors is to sand it down and try again.
when fixing runs (assuming in the clearcoat) you wet sand the high spots with 1500 grit to 2000 (assuming how brave you are). Wetsanding is used with a bucket of water. Dunk the paper, and sand away. Wetter the better.
When applying base and clear, you want to aim the gun about 6-12 inches away from the panel and do one run down the entire car, go halfway down that first spray, then go back over that. Basically overlapping the paint.

There are also files used that remove runs. I think they're for the experienced though.

Lots of good information. The owner of the site, Kevin Tetz also has
body and painting videos for sale that are very helpful.

Thanks for the tips. I went by the painter's tonight and he'd told me about the 1500 grit paper and then polishing the runs. Looks like everyone is in agreement, so I'll "dive in" and see if I can fix one of the mistakes. Actually he's done a really nice job, but the last few steps may be up to me. Since I now have to completely assemble the car I'll probably put more "booboos" in myself, and will have to learn to fix the paint anyway.
