Default 400hp

Just sold 89 6speed 40,000 miles FX3 to someone who would
like to get 400 RWHP. Car was dyno'ed at 228RWHP. Car is stock
except K&N and Cat back Stainless exhaust (BB). No super
charging or Gas please. Buyer has @ 5-8,000 to spend and does
not want to buy a stroker, but modify existing engine. Suggestions?
Possible? Anyone done this? Links? ect. would be greatly
appreciated. This is a project that needs to be done within 8-10
weeks, as car is then being shipped to London, England.
Thanks, in advance. I know I'll get some great ideas here to
present to new owner and then relay to mechanic who is doing
the work.

VERY doable...

Follow the link to my web site and go to "Recipe for a 400 HP L98" Has P/N's used, what we did, headwork done, cam, etc.

I actually have over that now...picked up about 25 HP when we did the last rebuild.

Time needed to get it done is a little tight, but if all the parts are available in a few weeks, you should have no problems getting the thing done.

The chip will be the last thing to do. Find someplace where you can chassis-dyno tune the car. After that take it on the road and capture data under different conditions then have them tweak the tune until it is right.

Mine is a HOOT to drive. One of my employees took a ride with me, and I smoked the tires through 4th. He just sat back and could not believe the torque the motor makes. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it...

Good luck!

AFR 190 heads, LPE Superram and 74219 cam, Hooker 2149 or 2151 1-3/4" headers, that should get over 400 at the crank.

With a 6-speed 400hp at the road will take about 470hp at the crank.

I don't believe that can be done with a NA 350cid.

Convince your client to settle for 400hp at the crank, which is easy to do, or go for a stroker.

Either go with a 383 or a supercharger or settle for 400 at the crank

you aint gett'n 400 at the rear wheels with a NA 350 without giving up a lot of drivability and forget emissions if that's a concern. you can get a 350 over 500hp at the crank with a enough compression and cam & heads, but i wouldn't want to drive it on the street.

They just reviewed a budget 383 that made over 500hp in one of the mags (hot rod or pop hot rod) and even that was pushing the edge of streetability. Their cost was 6500 w/o labor, block or machine work using iron heads.

if he wants a relaible 400rwhp car he needs a built bottom end, good heads and a blower. I think there was a procharger here for sale for 2500 not too long ago...don't know if it sold or not.
