I have several steel body Corvettes, 1/64, 1/25 & 1/18 scale, all made overseas too! Otherwise, No, never produced by Chevrolet.

metal Corvette
The only metal "Vette" was a prototype, built by Pininfarina for GM as a show car to showcase the experimental two-rotor Wankel engine in 1973. It was called the XP-987GT, Not a production vehicle, not built on a production line. Prototype all the way. Real metal Corvette never happened. You can tell you friend you know where a stock 63 split window Corvette with factory 454 LS-7 with air is. I'm sure he be able to tell you about that one too. I recall an article a number of years ago (I think Road & Track) regarding the "fact" that GM was considering production an all aluminum Vette . I believe it regarded the C4, but it never happened and it was pure conjecture or myth.
The same article I belive stated that Ford always produced a Stainless Steel version of all their designs to "proof" their stamps and that they are housed in a warehouse in Pontiac Mich.
A friend worked for Ford and he said definately a No on the SS.
They would have one thing in common with the Vette.
No rust.
I think there is a lot of out there regarding car makers plans.
Regards
Jim

Never NADA zip on the steel body! But I have seen plenty of sheet metal under Bubba patches, along with chicken wire, card board, aluminum foil, beer and soda cans.
People will use most anything as backing for a fiberglass patch.
Now that is composite for you, Bubba composite!
