Default ZR1 Wheels

The finish on my 90ZR1 wheels is defintily starting to comeoff... it looks like I put glitter on them. I can find the later model years wheels all day, but I like my wheels, anyone know where i can get these refinished or buy new ones for the 90. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've had to refinish the center caps off an 88 wheel, and it was fairly easy. I know that the center caps are alot smaller, but this is what I did. Home Depot sells graffiti remover in a spray can.I sprayed the stuff onto the caps, and in about 30 minutes I rinsed the stuff of with a garden hose. The old clear coat came off by just rinsing with water. You don't want to use anything abrasive since it will scratch the aluminum machined finish. I bought some clear coat in a spray can, made by (Dupli-color) at my local auto parts store, and gave it a couple of coats and the caps look just like they were factory new.

Contact these folks:

http://www.vettewheel.com/

You will have to call as they do not list the ZR-1 application. I have a 90 also and they had a set for exchange when I called them. I'm not sure if they only do the Chrome exchange. I imagine you are look for just stock restoration.

Depending on when you live, John at NE Wheel Repair does awesome work on restoration and even though I moved back home to Hawaii I am thinking about sending mine to him. Mom at ZR-1 Net Registry might even be familiar with his work:

The restoration of a '90 wheel is just a bit more complicated than just stripping the clear. After the clear is removed the flange needs to be polished and then the wheel is recleared(powder coated) usually. Your very close to some people who do a very good job. Transwheel Inc.
I've had several sets of wheels done by them and everyone was a quality finished product. If they do them for you the clear finish is warranted for life against anything other than abuse.

I don't know how they would price a retail set but they're close and if you were connected to a body shop or repair shop they would likely pick up and deliver. '90 wheels deserve their treatment!
