Default LUk Pro Gold Clutch and lightweight flywheel

Well I've decided on a clutch. I'm going to go with the LUK Pro Gold series kit with the lightweight flywheel. Many people have said how good they are. I sure hope so, they're pretty expensive!

nah, Exedy is expensive. (1500+) LUKs go for 700 and change complere with balanced flywheel. thats what im going for.

Stock pedal pressure but can hold 450rwhp+...cant go wrong!!

I'm happy with my LUK Gold set-up. I'm at 415rwhp and it holds the power and is SMOOTH.

Is there a horsepower or torque rating on the LUK Pro Gold series clutches? I haven't seen any actual numbers.

Be sure to post up a nice review once you get it done. My clutch will need to be replaced here in the next few months and the Luk & AL flywheel is my #1 candidate.

I have the LUK plus aluminum flywheel. I abolutely love the shift/pedal action. Here's a link to some info on the clutch. Link to LUK info. Read the info for the stage 2 clutch and you'll see it is rated to 575. I think that is flywheel hp but don't know for sure.

I would warn you to investigate the aluminum flywheel. It should give you some performance gains but I have noticed drawbacks. The aluminum flywheel is noisier and requires more rpms to take off in first gear. Not a lot more rpms but its noticeable. Also, in tight driving situations (like the stop-n-go getting in/out of a parking lot) where you might ride the clutch a little bit, the rpms can surge/rev a little bit.

I can deal with additional rpms on take-off but have really tired of the noise and surging. I plan to switch my LUK to the steel flywheel in the spring. Others have said they have not noticed the noise/surge problems.

If you can, see if you can go for a ride with someone who has a LUK plus aluminum flywheel and get some firsthand experience. I did not and reget getting the aluminum flywheel.

Just ordered LUK stage 2, have you had any balance problems with the aluminum flywheel?

Not that I have noticed. I haven't had any problems with excessive vibration. Just increased noise.

The pedal action is very smooth. Very little effort required and no sticking. LUK is the same company that built the OEM C5 clutch.

There is additional clutch noise/chatter due to the aluminum flywheel. At least that is my opinion. Its not excessive but it is noticeable to my 34 year old ears. If you had the stereo turned up or one of the louder exhausts, you might not hear it.

I think a lot of people would be willing to trade-off the increase in noise for the increased HP. I was told the aluminum flywheel would add 20 HP at the flywheel. I can't verify that increase because I had too many other mods done at the same time. Although, I think 20 HP sounds a little generous.

well i hope its not like the z06 clutch. I have a 5k mile z06 clutch w/ slave and z06 master that sticks already. What kinda noise are you referring to? Id rather have no noise and no HP gain personally./

Explaing noises is hard becasue its so subjective. I suppose I'd say its more like a ticking noise. I notice it most when I let off on the gas pedal around the 2500-3500 rpm range. I asked Carolina Clutches and they said you can get a billet flywheel for the LUK Pro Gold and avoid the chatter. I think you have to get the billet flywheel balanced where the aluminum flywheel is prebalanced...but don't quote me on that.

Any long term reports on the longevity of these clutches? Did anybody need to "adjust" the clutch?

Im at ~500rwhp and no problems yet with my standard clutch. Although, I dont do hard launches with the Nitrous. Not sure but I think my '01 C5 has the same clutch as a Z06.
