c5 squeaky convertible top
I own a '98 convertible. When the top is down, I can hear squeaks from under the top compartment on the driver's side. Since this is an intermittant problem, Chevy has been unsuccessful in troubleshooting. The squeaks only originate in the top down position. Has anyone experienced this problem? How did you fix it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Mine squeaks on the passenger side. I just turn the stereo up.

I don't have a vert but don't you think the squeaks would come from the metal sub-frame rubbing on itself? Perhaps you can (if you haven't already) lube the contact points on the frame and see if that fixes it?

Mine did that. There are rubber pads on the inside of the rear hatch that are supposed to push down on the top so it can't move up and down which cause squeeks. By adding foam rubber to both pads the top can't move and the squeeks should stop. While driving with the top down reach around and hold the top down to see if this is what is happening in your car.

Try this....anywhere you have "rubbing" going on, put a light coat of WD40 on it.
To apply, spray WD40 on a paper towel and then wipe the area down slightly.
This will eliminate any friction between the surfaces which causes the squeeking noise.
This works well on any surface, i.e.: metal to rubber, rubber to rubber, metal to metal, etc.).
