Default Convertible trunk size

I have seen several magazine articles which state that, with the top down, the trunk only has a little over 5 cubic feet of space. The C5 has over 10 cubic feet with the top down. Can the difference be this great. A Miata will have more trunk space than a C6 if this is true! It will make the convertible useless for trips and will make me look elsewhere when I decide to trade in my C5 convertible. Does anyone know the real specs on C6 convertible trunk size?

On page 54 of the special edition of Corvette Quarterly, it states that the convertible offers 10.4 cu. ft. of storage capacity. It does not say whether that's with the top up or down.

According to Sept Road & Track, power-top C6 vert trunk space:
-- 10.5 cu ft top up
-- 5.1 cu ft top down
-- car dimensions 174.6 x 72.6 x 49.1 inches

By comparison, an old R&T road test of a '98 C5 vert shows:
-- 13.5 cu ft top up
-- 10.8 cu ft top down
-- car dimensions 179.7 x 73.6 x 47.7 inches

To get the new Euro-friendly 5-inch shorter length, it looks like trunk space was sacrificed. Personally, I like the shorter length and shorter overhangs. But I'm not looking at a vert, the removable top coupe is what I want.

The loss of the center compartment and the shorter rear end have wound up screwing Convertible lovers.

Drat! I got rid of 2 C4 Verts (which I dearly loved) because of lack of cargo space for road trips. For comparision, how much did coupe space change?

Coupe cargo space is supposedly 22.4 cu. ft., per GM in special issue of Corvette Quarterly. Don't know how much C5 had.

Good thing my Vert will be strictly a fun-toy and not a hauler.
