Default Corvette LS1 heads vs 99 Trans Am LS1 heads?

Will an LS1 head off a 99 Trans Am fit and work on a 98 Corvette? I got a good deal on a set to have ported to put on my 98 Vet, but before I get the port work done, I want to make sure they are exact replacements. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

i don't know, but I would look on the heads and see if they have the same part number. That way you know you have the same heads,or maybe a telephone call to the Cevrolet Parts counter.I am sure they could help you also. :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy

yes, they will work. Be sure to get the same model year head gasket, especially if the heads are 853 castings with the dimple in the deck face at the #6/#3 cyl position. If you have these heads you will need the composite head gasket p/n# 12498543. If you use later model mls gaskets with these heads, you may develop a coolant leak.

You will also need different valve covers, coil mounting brackets and bolts. 98 heads are perimeter bolts for the valve covers and 99 and up are center bolt mounted valve covers.

Ok, so there are some differences. Then would 98 C5 LS1 heads be the exact same as a 98 F body LS1? Maybe I can trade them off. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks Again

98 Y-body == 98 F-body. After 98, they both got centerbolt valve covers with a different coil pack mounting setup.

Thanks Dope. It figures that the deal I found ends up not such a deal when things don't all fit right.
