GOOD MECHANIC IN NORTH JERSEY
I am in need of a good mechanic to work on my AC/Heater. It seems as though the vents are "mixed up", air is comming out of my defroster and not the proper vents. I am in Wayne,N.J.

Re: GOOD MECHANIC IN NORTH JERSEY (AWSUM94)
I have had no luck finding a good mechanic anywhere in NJ for Vettes. I'm in Bergen County. I think I may be forced to use Malcolm Konner... its a Chevy dealership that specializes in Corvettes. All of the speed shops that I've looked into so far in this area are filled with unqualified personnel that deal with Hondas / Acuras / VW and have no ability or knowledge to work on Vettes. So, at this point, I've been the best mechanic to my Vette. But, if you find anyone please let me know. I have seen some places in the yellow pages ( Cross Flags Corvette in Budd Lake and Top Flight Corvette in Fairview) but I don't know anyone that has been to them.

I sent you an email, I have experience with some of the locals.
Malcom Konner is no longer there as of 8 years ago, it turned into Some kind of 'auto mart'.
If you want to service your car at a dealership try Great American, on River Road in Hackensack, they have a mechanic who used to work at Konner.
However, I would not use them unless I was in a bind.
I emailed you with a good mechanic who I consider an expert on older vette's. He works on my vette.

I have not used them, but I have heard good things about Cartek in Garwood. BTW, the mis directed air flow is usually caused by a vacuum leak. There are several platic vacuum line connectors and junctions that simply melt from the extreme heat in our engine compartments. Check all the connectors and junctions, especially those close to the manifold. Good Luck!

Re: GOOD MECHANIC IN NORTH JERSEY (CG77VETTE)
There's a good vette specialist in Cliffside Park - when I can't figure out what's wrong I take my '94 to him and so far he's never let me down. Much better than the dealer service departments, most of which have forgotten how to work on our C4s (if they ever knew in the first place)

Scott Madsen of Madsen Classic Restorations is the best Vette Guy I know. He did extensive work on my Vette, and I would never let anyone else touch that car. His shop is on RT 46 West in Mine Hill.

I've looked high and low and haven't found a good shop in Bergen or Passaic County that works on Vettes.

Re: GOOD MECHANIC IN NORTH JERSEY (bobsY2Kvette)
I don't know any good mechanics to recommend but it sounds like you have a vacuum leak. If you pop off the passenger side fuel rail cover there is a small black plastic T-valve with 3 vacuum lines attached to it. This valve deteriorates due to the heat and on the underside of it you will usually find holes in the plastic. This is a fairly common problem and it takes less than 5 minutes to replace. Save your money and do this one yourself  If you do a search for vacuum leak in C4 gen you should get all the info you need.

Re: GOOD MECHANIC IN NORTH JERSEY (AWSUM94)
Hello from Oakland! Back in my vetteing days i used to use Corvette Specialty in Walden NY. Great bunch of guys. Did lots of work and never ripped me off. Even got to watch/help on one on my repairs.
They are 2 exits up on the NY Thruway. Use the exit for Stewarts AFB. its about a 45 minute drive, but in a vette there is nothing as a drive that lasts to long!

Re: GOOD MECHANIC IN NORTH JERSEY (flyinace2000)
If any of you local guys are in a bind, I do side jobs at a very reasonable price. I'm located in Wood-Ridge, NJ (07075). Some of my qualifications are ASE certified Master Tech, ASE certified Undercar Specialist, ANSI certified Hydraulic repair, MACS A/C certified and many years of dealership experience (Chevy and Ford). My specialties are drivability issues and restos. I've had a '72 (recently sold), and a '99. I currently have a '67 (should be back on the road this summer), and a '03. If it's a job that'll take more than one day, I do have a locking multicar garage where the car would be worked on/stored. Please don't get turned off by my screen name, I've had it for years and use it on a bunch of boards. It's just easier for me to only use one name. I charge $25/hr + parts for small jobs. Big jobs or multiple small jobs I get $100/day + parts. I can drop you off and pick you up if you need a ride to work/home. If anybody is interested, feel free to get back to me here, or Email me at AAJSD455@aol.com. If you Email me, put "Side Work" in the title spot.
