Default Headers

I have a 75 currently undergoing an engine rebuild. Plan on dual exhaust, headers, 2 1/4 exhaust and flowmaster 50s or 40s. Please recommend a moderate priced header: Dynomax, Hedman, etc. Looking or fit and ease of installation. Car is a daily driver. Engine mods are .480 cam, performance manifold and Edelbrock Performer 650 carb. No further internal mods.
Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forum.

The coated DynoMax headers are a great fit and used by a lot of the members.

:iagree:
What he said: DYNOMAX's will probably find their way into my '82...

One question: why 'only' 2.25" pipes?

(P.S.: if this is your daily-driver, consider the ceramic-coated/JET-HOT headers from DYNOMAX, too.
I had headers for my old rear-engine dragster J-H'd 9 years ago; now on it's 3rd owner, but the pipes still look like Day 1...)

Got em, love em. DEFINITELY get the JetHot or some other heat treating or your engine bay will roast

I too am curious about the "header" question, as I am trying to get a motor together to put into my car. Are the dynomax headers emission legal. I have a 79 and currently as far as I know ALL original. I'd like to keep most of it that way - or offer a performance alternative. I have the air pump and was curious if they make a dynomax (or similar) header for my year car w/ the "air" holes in the header?? Looking at the web site, I didn't see much in regards to a 79. :seeya

Hedman makes a model with AIR fittings but the JetHot coated version goes for around $700 if I remember. I'm running Cat only (soon to be Cat-less) so AIR was not consideration. Good luck -- headers are awesome

Fast 81- The Hedman Elite w/ AIR is 470. About 250 without the coating.

Here is a pic of the ceramic coated headers by Dynamax. They look good now, I'll find out shortly how well they hold up! 230 bux is hard to beat for a pair of headers

I have the Dynomax coated headers on the vette and although they do fade a bit over time they still look good and put off less heat than the uncoated Edelbrock headers I have on my Formula.

There's an outfit out here in the Northwest named Stan's Headers that makes great headers. I have a set of his tri-y's on my 71 LT-1 and love them. They were very easy to install. I've tried to insert a picture on this post, but if it doesn't work, go to: http://www.stans-headers.com/Photos/109y.JPG.

I find if you want a set of headers that will NOT burn any plug arrangement you have, fit a vette chassis very nicely, and work well.....try the 140 bux with shipping....Schoenfeld #151.....go to the site and see them....

they will coat them if you want......

Dynomax ceramic coated are the way to go. I put them on my ZZ4. A nice header with a good look for around 215 dollars.

Dynomax headers look good new but watch out if you have to break in a new motor or cam with them on. I put mine on and they looked great then when i broke in my new cam they started glowing red. When they cooled down the ceramic coating was bubbled and burnt off, they look like crap now.

The coating has a life time warranty (ya now I gotta find my warranty info after 5 years:)), just don't mention what you where doing when it happened.

Not $700 - $475. Hedman thermal coated with AIR pipes are $475 from Summit or Jegs. Part number 68301-6 is what you are looking for.

I have them on my 1980 and I really like the fit, finish, HP and sound.

Sounds like you were running too much advance, running too lean, or you were sucking air in under the carb.
