Holley 950..
What kind of carb is this.As i see it it uses the same venturi design and size as a 850,but it has the looks of a Dominator.Pros and Cons of using it on a 489 or a 461 with a 7000Rpm limit?
Whats the differens between the 850 and 950,besides flow?

Depends on which 950 you are talking about. There's a Holley HP 950 and I believe there's a "baby dominator" that's 950. The HP 950 is based on the 4150 style carb (like the 850/750/ etc). Double pumper with the choke horn milled off. It's holley high-perf version of the 4150.
The 950 Dominator requires a different intake (bigger flange) and is not calibrated for street use. Not saying it can't be made to work on the street, but it will require some work. For your application I'd go with the HP950.

There is a formula to determine how much airflow your engine can draw as a carb recomendation, I havent used it for a long time but my memory tells me it is cubic inches X RPM divided by .2345 any Cfm over the answer does NG and can be detrimental to performance. I hope this helps you

I just installed a new 950 HP on my new engine combo. It runs incredibly well. This is a 100% street-driven car. Idles like a champ, and low-speed driveability is incredible. I am very, very pleased. I just bolted it on out-of-the-box and it runs great.
It is probably a bit big for a 500+hp application, but that is what AFR recommended I use with their heads, as well as a couple of other friends who own local shops.
So far I'm very happy with it.

WOW!!!! Amazing we're not hearing from the "demon" crowd as to how the Holley carb is blah, blah, blah... Good Luck with the carb and your project. :cheers:

I use the 950 HP 4150 on my car and love it. Thought you might like to see a carb comparrison done on a small block of unknown size. The 950 beats all the other smaller carbs with the exception of one rpm point for one particular carb. The cfm for cubic inch charts are somewhat out to lunch. If you are building a grocery getter, use them. If you are building a truly high performance engine to be used in a car with good off the line gearing, a much higher cfm can still be used with great results.
