The casting #, 3999289, is for a 72-79 454.
The CWD suffix was used five times in 73 and 74. In 73 it was for a Chevrolet at 250hp with auto, as a Chevelle with 250hp auto, and in the Monte Carlo at 245hp and auto. For 74 it was in the Monte Carlo at 235hp auto and the Chevelle at 235 with auto.
As for the Hi Per Passanger marking, that was used on lots of big block, basicly indicates passanger car rather than a truck.

nothing will perk your day like finding HI-PERF cast into the back of your big block, then reality hits and you find out somebody at GM has a sence of humor :)

This is from the Mortec site:
On big blocks, you may see the words "HIPERF", "HIPER", "TRUCK", "M.TRUCK", "PASS", "MAR" or "MARINE" cast into the block. You may see one or a combination of some of these words. First let me say that "HIPERF" or "HIPER" was used on ALL '65-'91 Mark IV big block blocks and is not an indication that it has four bolt main caps and was used in a high performance application. Two-bolt, low performance big blocks received the same "HIPERF" designation.

Re: Found a 454bb with HI PER PASS F9 in the? (73 LS-4)
I am trying to look for a BB with 4 bolts and a steel crank and so far it is not happening . I wanted a block can take up to about 450 HP so i don't want to spent money on a wrong block. My question is if a two bolts and a cast crank will edequate for that much HP & TORQUE. I know I ask this question before, but i really want to be sure this time, i made alot of wrong decisions for my vette b/c i did not know the forum at the time. Thankyou very much

The 2 bolt block and cast crank can easily live @ 450 hp
0.010/0.010 on the main and rods is prefferred but at low HP levels like that a 0.020/0.020 cast crank is good for the go.
Make sure the linebore is in spec though and the crank thrust is not wore beyond spec...make that part of the deal if you can saying if the crank won't make it...money back

the four-bolt main is a nice security blanket, but not necessary. You'll break the crank before you'll break a main.
