Hey Paul,
What do you mean, "two tone interior"? I ordered a new 1976 C3 and I don't remember seeing it on the order sheet. Or are you refering to the fact that some late 1976 Vettes got some (or all) or the 1977 interiors. I saw one of them in Saginaw. I wish I had documented exactly what was brought forward in that "Pull Ahead" vehicle.

As soon as the 1977s came out with the leather wrapped steering wheel I had to upgrade my 1976! Luckily, Saginaw Division just HAD to test the new steering wheels with their steering columns for the 1977 model year!!! I just happened to liberate a 1977 steering wheel for my 1976. The boys from the steering column group fixed me up with the proper can (aka extension) and other horn parts.

Yup, I got one! Dark Brown dash and carpet with White Leather Seats and White door panels. Unfortunately car was repainted to Original White and so was the trim tag! I have seen maybe two others.....one was Red and White with a Red exterior and the other I cant be sure..wish I could help you more! Last 5 serial #s are 04551 so it was a very early '76. Even had the small Corvette letters in the rear......... :yesnod:

Paul:
Nice seeing you twice in the past few weeks - Bloomington & Hershey Nationals. I have a one owner 77 special order with two-tone interior. The first line on the trim tag reads ZJl Chevrolet 30. The trim tag reads 272. That corresponds to blue leather interior. I have the salesmen order form, window sticker, build sheet and dealer order sheet that all list the code AWD2 White Leather Bkt/Blue ACC. The window sticker lists it as no charge (.00). The 1977 Dealer Order Guide says "special order provide the dealer initials the approriate order form box (ZP2) as verification that the requested combination is definitely desired".

The special codes were as follows
AWD2 White/Blue
AWS2 White/Buckskin
AWF2 White/Red
AWM2 White/Smoke Gray

It lists the seats, door trim, and headliner as white and the instrument panel pad and carpet as either blue, buckskin, red or gray. I have only seen two 1976's with two tone interiors - one was years ago featured in Corvette Fever and the other one was Bob McDorman's (the Chevrolet dealer) in his personal collection. The only 77 I have seen personally is the one I own (see picture below). I have heard of others through the forum but have never seen them. It's hard thing to prove with NCRS if you don't have original paper documentation because the trim tag is stamped as just a solid color interior. Also, 1977 was the first year with cloth inserts but you could not order the two tone interior with cloth inserts. The information I've listed here was all taken from the 1977 Dealer Order Guide. The sales brouchure and the Consumer Information Center did not list two tone interiors. Hope I didn't confuse or bore you too much.

Bob and tnt, yes, that is the info I was looking for-saw two tags from a '77 that had that "ZJ1" code and my '53-'80 GM Corvette RPO book does say "ZJI-Custom Interior-Two Tone". Wondered if any one here had one. Thanks again!!!

I get LOTS of comments on my Car at the Shows.....the Ladies especially seem to like the White Leather Seats! Even the local Vette Specialties Shop remarked about the rarity of it when I had it there....... :D

You learn something new almost every day. I had never heard of two tone interiors. And I thought that I was up on the 76's.

I had a 76 with white leather seats and brown (buckskin)? carpeting. That was original. The exterior was buckskin also, sort of a light tannish color.

My 76 came from the factory w/seats, carpet, dash and interior trim in light Buckskin. Dash pad and door panels were dark Buckskin. Trim code is Buckskin.I bought it from the original owner 25 yrs ago who told me it was ordered that way.I've never seen another like it.When I restored the interior I changed the door panels to light buckskin .

This discussion thread certainly has had legs and longevity! Appreciate those sharing the trim tags and the ZJ1 code. The buckskin is an interesting combination given the primary buckskin interior calling out the dark brown as the accent color...as I understand it based on what has been written.

I would be thrilled to see a buildsheet with RPO ZJ1 and learn how the interior color codes were called out. If those with RPO ZJ1 have a buildsheet feel free to correspond with me at hunt4cleanair@earthlink.net. It would be greatly appreciated!

Default Re: AWM2 White/Smoke Gray

Just to keep this discussion thread stoked, Borowski and I spotted a Bright Blue 1976 with smoke gray interior and the AWM2 White/Smoke Gray two-tone interior at Bloomington Gold. It was entered as a Survivor and I am sure it earned its accolades.

The couple had no paperwork but the trim tag did not show the familiar ZJ1 code on the trim tag forum posters described or posted. This must have been a 77 processing upgrade...code on the trim tag.

And I thank Lowe for sending me a copy of his dealer invoice with the AWS2 code...cool!
