76 Radio DIN Trim Plate, Had fun with Canadian Tire today!
Went on American International's website awhile back and found the trim plate to cover up the unsightly bubba'd cover on there now. Printed the page out, and decided to bring it into my local Canadian Tire to have it ordered (seeing as other people have done this).
First attempt, last week I went in and they put it into their system, and said we will have to do a search on the item. They took my phone number and I haven't heard from them yet with an answer.
So today on my lunch went into another Canadian Tire and tried the same thing. I got passed to this little punk kid and he said "sorry, but we cannot order this, and they only give us a couple of universal kits. You'll have to use one of those". :banghead: I see this guy drives a ricer! How the hell is a universal going to fit on a vette? So I got fed up and left.
So I went back to work and called the 1-800 number at the bottom of my sheet and told this guy what had happended. He couldn't believe that they were saying it. So he conferenced me in on a call to him. The manufacturer actually had to tell this kid how to do his job! He says to the Manufacturer "you have to come in and order the part" and he says "this is the manufacturer, and the guy was in the store already today and you couldn't help him". So then he gave him the following information. I thought I'd share this with everyone.
The part # is FP-306 made by American International
The twit behind the counter has to call in the part number to order it, for Ontario it's as follows: 1-866-666-2886
That is the warehouse for CDN tire in Ontario. Then they have to call American International for price and availability. And if they don't help you out, then I have to call AI back. Here's there #. They are a great help for those of you interested in using this item:
US: 800.336.6500
Canada: 888.922.3006
And this is what the part looks like:

Ha ha ha ha.
I have to laugh, because it took longer than a month for me to get that part from Canadian Tire. I talked to about 4 of their representatives, etc. etc., coming in every few days when they guaranteed they'd have it. I was ready to walk in with an uzi and let loose when it finally came after that ridiculous wait.
Good luck!

American International didn't let you order directly through them?
That's how I got mine but that was a couple of years ago.

Excuse my ignorance guys, but what is the function for a DIN plate? Does it allow the use of the knobless "new" radios in the center guage cluster of our vettes? Can one of these be used on a 81' as I am considering installing a
DIN CD player in mine...thanks for the info!

The '81 dash is a little different. I think you can sucessfully just cut your radio face plate and have it look clean for a DIN style radio install. The older C3's faceplate had a raised surface around the radio ***** and if you cut out for a DIN style radio some of that raised section is left showing. This face plate covers cover all that up and keeps things looking clean. Here's a pic of mine installed:
