1991 Top Speed??
Hi everyone:
I just got my first Vette. Turquoise 91, Sport Coupe, 6 Speed with 96k miles. It is on very good condition and I paid $ 8500.00 for it.
I was wondering, what is the top end for a stock 91, 6 speed Coupe??
Thanks,
Love the forum, I get on every evening for at least 15 minutes. Very informative and entertaining.
I am in Miami, FLA. Any other Vette owners in this area want to hang, drop me a line.

Welcome to the forum. Man you made an awesome deal, my father-in-law paid $400 more for a 87 two months ago. I hope you enjoy the car, it should top end at 150-160 mph. Stay a little longer dude.

Re: (scorp508)
Rear gear would affect the top.......so a lower 2.59 should go faster top speed than a 3.07...etc....What I would like to know........Is the TOP SPEED for ALL 91's 155?? I have heard much more than that.......but in the twisties here in the mouontains.............I'll never see those numbers!
Someday though.........! :yesnod:

Re: (scorp508)
depending on tranny too. standards get more power to the ground so the usually top out 2-3mph higher. 15 hours a day  im glad im only at around 12 :)

Re: (KNCRSR5R)
Couple of nights ago I tried this computer performance analysator software I donloaded from web (can't remember the name of it). Among the hundreds of other cars there was a '90 L98 automatic with power, tq, gearing, weight, wind resistance, tire size etc. etc. factors already entered.
I didn't check what 6 spd can do however. Early '90's test I saw in a magazine stated that the top speed should be 150mph.
The '90 has virtually the same figures as my '91, right? OK, I tried this thing and simulated acceleration and top speed performance for an automatic.
The top speed it calculated was about 151mph for 2.59 and 132mph for 3.07 cars. That was a bit disapointing. European/Japanese sportscars have much higher gearing but they are getting much better VMAX. The difference being that they rev much higher. By increasing the red line (in the sofware) I was able to get faster topspd.
Ok, I don't really need very high topspeed but it would be nice to know (brag factor ;) ) that my car could do better than 132mph as any T4/T5/T6 Volvo or V6 VW or whatever could beat me at will (me being faster in acceleration of course). Topspeed of 160-170mph however would make the car untouchable by virtually all else than real sportscars.
Am I right: if I want better topspeed I need more revs? What options are there to get more revs out of the motor without losing too much low end tq?

ToniH

Re: 1991 Top Speed?? (vmaxer)
I have gone 135 in my 91 and had more left but had to lift because the tires are a bit old and in need of replacing, and the front rotors need to be recut, and the roof was off, so it was loud and scary! I think 155 with a long enough road. What gear are you running?
I am in Miami also- I saw one like yours in front of the Eastern Financial Credit Union, were you makingthat 1st payment?

Glad to hear that :D It's automatic, right?
Haven't tried it myself as the speeding ticked system is quite harsh in our Country nowadays. The fine is dependent in your income and last year they made illegal to lie ;) ones income. Before that everybody said they were students or something and got away with small fines but now it is worse. I mean the worst fines I've seen have been like $75.000 for some wealthy indivituals. In worst case even I could get a fine that equals the value of my car ....cannot affort that unfortunately...got to try it some night though with a radar detector to be sure... ;)
Thanks,
ToniH
